3 Best Phu Quoc Private Pool Villas (Expat review 2027)

Most of what gets listed as a Phu Quoc private pool villa is one of three things: a resort bungalow with a small plunge pool, a villa with its own pool inside a resort, or a whole house with a pool somewhere in town. They suit very different trips, and what decides it is mostly how many of you there are and how long you’re staying.

For two people I’d take a plunge-pool bungalow on the beach. For a group, a three or four-bedroom resort villa, which works out cheaper per person than most hotel rooms on the island. For anything over a couple of weeks, a house in Duong Dong, which is what I did for part of my month here. The three below are the ones I’d book for each.

  • Quick Answer: The best Phu Quoc private pool villas depend on group size. For couples, Novotel Phu Quoc Resort’s beachfront bungalows with a private plunge pool, roughly $240 to $330 a night. For groups, the Sailing Club Signature Resort on southern Long Beach, where every villa has its own pool and a three-bedroom villa is around $215 to $245, about $40 each for six. For long stays and families, a private house with a pool in Duong Dong such as Lamena Pool Villa, cheapest on a monthly rate.
  • The three, by who’s coming:
  • Prices, for 2027 trips:
    • One-bedroom resort pool villa: from about $190 a night.
    • Three or four bedrooms: around $215 to $290.
    • Beachfront bungalow with a plunge pool: roughly $240 to $330.
    • Private house: by the night on booking sites, much less by the month.
  • Before paying: ask how long the pool is, whether it’s shared with other units, and how far the beach is.

You’ll notice I’ve linked to a few hotels and activities I used or recommend, you can even highlight any text to check prices and book instantly. If you make a booking through them, I receive a small commission, which really helps support the work I do here, at no additional cost to you.

Phu Quoc Private Pool Villas for Two: Novotel’s Beachfront Bungalows

For a couple, I’d book one of the private pool bungalows at Novotel Phu Quoc Resort on Long Beach, and the beachfront ones in particular. They’re right on the sand, with a wide terrace facing the sea and a bathtub outside, and each has its own pool of about eight metres.

That pool is a plunge pool. It’s for cooling off and sitting in with a drink, and it isn’t for swimming lengths. What makes these better value than most private pool villas on the island is that you have the pool and the sea, which very few places at this price manage.

They run roughly $240 to $330 a night, depending on the season and whether you’re in the beachfront row or the garden one behind it. The garden ones are a bit cheaper, and the view of the beach is most of what the extra money buys, so I wouldn’t save on that.

Novotel is a big family resort with a kids club, several pools and a free airport shuttle, about ten minutes from the airport, and the Sonasea night market is just outside the gate. Breakfast and the main pools are shared with everyone else, which is the trade for having the beach. Kids under 16 stay free sharing their parents’ bed, so it also works for a couple with one small child.

The other option for two is a one-bedroom villa at the Sailing Club Signature Resort, from about $190. You get a bigger pool, a kitchen and far more space for less money, and you give up the beach outside the door. If you’ll swim in the sea every day, Novotel. If you’ll mostly swim at home and ride to the beach now and then, the villa.

Phu Quoc Pool Villas for a Group: Sailing Club Signature Resort

This is the one that surprised me on price. The Sailing Club Signature Resort, on the inland side of southern Long Beach, is made up entirely of villas, and every one of them has its own pool in a walled garden. The bigger ones have three or four bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, plus a full kitchen and a living room.

A three-bedroom villa is around $215 to $245 a night outside the peak weeks, and a four-bedroom about $290. With six people in a three-bedroom villa, that’s about $36 to $41 each, with a private pool, which is less than most people pay for an ordinary room on the beachfront. The one-bedroom villas start at about $190, fine for a couple who want the space, and not the bargain the big ones are.

It isn’t on the beach. There’s a shuttle to the Sailing Club beach club roughly every hour, and free bikes, and the beach club is where I spent a lot of afternoons during my month, so I know that end of Long Beach well.

There’s also a shared bubble pool, a sauna, a gym and a spa. Breakfast costs extra. Not much is open around the resort in the evening, so groups tend to use the kitchen or ride out for dinner. It also takes dogs, for a nightly fee, which is unusual on the island.

For people coming from Saigon for a long weekend, this is the easiest version. The flight is about an hour and the resort is close to the airport, so two or three nights here with friends doesn’t need any planning beyond the booking. If it’s only the two of you and you want the beach club without the villa, Soul Boutique Hotel next to it costs a lot less.

A Private Pool Villa in Phu Quoc for a Month: Duong Dong

For a long stay, a resort makes less sense every week. I spent part of my month in a private house with a pool in Duong Dong, and for anyone here for two weeks or more it’s the version I’d recommend.

The one I’d point people to now is Lamena Pool Villa, in a lane off 30/4 Street in the middle of town. It’s a modern house with big rooms and high ceilings, a garden with a barbecue and a pool large enough to swim in, and it’s quiet because it’s set back from the road. You can walk to restaurants, shops and the night market, which matters more over a month than it does over a weekend.

There’s no breakfast, no reception and no daily service, so you’re living there more than staying there. In a private rental the owners matter more than anything else, because things break in a house in a way they don’t in a hotel, and Lamena’s answer quickly and sort problems out. Families have stayed there for a month at a time.

Booking sites show the nightly price. For anything over a couple of weeks, it’s worth messaging the owners about a monthly rate, which on Phu Quoc is usually far lower than the nightly price would add up to.

The other thing to know is that Duong Dong’s own beach isn’t the one you swim at, so on beach days it’s a short ride to Long Beach. With a pool at home, I didn’t mind that as much as I’d expected.

Do You Need a Private Pool on Phu Quoc?

Not always, and it depends a lot on when you’re going. From roughly November to April the west coast sea is calm and clear, and a hotel near a good beach does the job for most people. From May to October it’s the wet season on this side of the island, the waves on Long Beach pick up, and after heavy rain the water along the strip goes cloudy for a day or two. Add the sea lice that turn up in some months, and there are stretches of the year when the sea in front of your hotel isn’t the swim you were hoping for.

That’s when a private pool earns its price. In the wet season I’d put more weight on the pool than on the beach, and the per-person cost of a group villa makes that easy to justify. In the dry season, for a couple on a short trip, a good beach hotel is usually enough, and the beachfront Novotel bungalows are the way to have both.

What to Check Before Booking a Phu Quoc Pool Villa

The length of the pool. Listing photos are taken from the angle that makes a pool look bigger, and “private pool” covers everything from an eight-metre plunge pool to one you can swim in. I ask for the length in metres.

Whether it’s shared. Some villa complexes give one pool to two or three units. Lotus Private Pool Villas, north of Duong Dong near Gành Gió, works like that, and it’s good for a group of friends who book the whole set, with a host who helps with the barbecue. As one couple among strangers, it’s a shared pool.

Whether it’s overlooked. A pool with the neighbour’s balcony above it isn’t very private, and the photos rarely show what’s beside the wall. A quick look at the satellite view usually does, and I check it before booking anything on this island.

How far the beach is. Very few good-value pool villas are on the sand, and most are a shuttle or a short ride away. That’s fine as long as it’s what you expect.

When you’re going. From December to April prices climb steeply, and over Tết and Christmas to New Year the bigger villas book out first. I’d expect 2027 prices to run a little above the ones here.

Other Phu Quoc Villas With a Private Pool

For families with young children, New World and Mövenpick both have pool villas, and the kids clubs and layouts there are better than anything above. They’re covered in Phu Quoc family resorts. At the top end, Regent’s sky pool villas, JW Marriott and the Pullman pool villas start at around $500 a night.

Phu Quoc Private Pool Villas FAQ

How much is a private pool villa in Phu Quoc? From about $190 a night for a one-bedroom resort villa, $215 to $290 for three or four bedrooms, and $240 to $330 for a beachfront bungalow with a plunge pool. Private houses are cheapest by the month.

Is there a beachfront private pool villa in Phu Quoc? A few. Novotel’s beachfront pool bungalows are the best value, and if the beach matters more than the pool, the options are in hotels near beaches in Phu Quoc.

Which area is best for a villa with a private pool in Phu Quoc? Long Beach and Duong Dong, in the middle of the west coast, so the rest of the island is within easy reach.

Can you rent a pool villa in Phu Quoc for a month? Yes. A private house in Duong Dong is the best way to do it, and the owners will usually quote a monthly rate.

Are Phu Quoc pool villas good for families? A three-bedroom Sailing Club villa works well. With small children, the family resorts with kids clubs are easier.

What I’d Do Differently Now

Before this trip I thought of a private pool on Phu Quoc as a luxury extra, something for a honeymoon. After a month here I’d book a pool before a beachfront room for any stay over four or five nights, as long as the beach is a short ride away.

What I wouldn’t do is pay resort prices for a one-bedroom pool villa when the same money gets a beachfront bungalow with a pool, or book a private house for a weekend, since those only make sense over weeks. And I wouldn’t book any of them without asking how long the pool is.
