I’m visiting Vietnam for the first time later this month. Starting my trip in HCMC for 5 nights. I’d like a peaceful beach experience for a week and am considering either ferry to Vung Tau or flight to Phu Quoc (then fly directly back to Thailand).
I’d appreciate any comments or views as to the difference in the beaches of the two places mentioned.

Stormking.
You can take the Green line ferry on it’s way to Saigon across the river to Ben Pha. From there you can overland and at least one ferry to My Tho to avoid HCMC.
There used to be another ferry only for locals that maybe went further. Check at the ferry port.

i Found Pattaya to be rather touristy and in some areas, down right sleezy, i love Vung Tau,my wife and I are going to look at condos there next week. Trump is an #@%&&%$##@!!! has been holding up my wifes visa for years, i spend so much time in vietnam we figure mind as well get a place. when we first started spending time in Vung tau i didn’t see many western tourist, a handful of expats was about it. now it’s getting crazy. if it wasn’t for Mom in My Tho we would look further up the coast. i often wonder if i can make it to My Tho from Vung Tau on a Jet-Ski .. it would be so much better than going through HCMC. i think hahaha
