Hi All,
We are travelling to Vietnam soon, and facing a bit of a problem with regards the Terminal change in HCMC
We fly in from Delhi on VN, and reach HCMC Terminal 2 at 0550
Then we have a connecting flight on VN to Phu Quoc from Terminal 3 at 0810 (a gap of 2 hrs 20 mins)
I booked the flight to Phu Quoc and this connection was provided by VN directly on their site.
I also believe that we will have to first go through immigration, then collect our baggage in HCMC and then check in again for Phu Quoc from a different terminal
Is this something that can be done easily in 2 hrs 20 mins? I keep reading that the immigration in HCMC takes a lot of time.
Also, is it easy to get a cab between terminals?

Would you be willing to share the name of the company you booked fast track service with?
Back from the trip. Sharing my experience.
Primarily, people who are taking the Vietnam Airlines flight from Delhi to Phu Quoc via HCMC should definitely take the Fast Track Immigration Service. I am sure others should too, if the gap between your flights is around 2 hrs
The immigration queues are huge. Again this can vary depending on your arrival time and the flight traffic but by and large they are huge.
The service that we booked was very comfortable. The staff was present at the airport and guided us through to the VIP immigration line. Not that this was empty (still had around 10-15 people in front of me), but its still better than having 100 in front of you.
Immigration done, we collected our luggage from the belt, and proceeded to a separate counter where VN staff checked it in again to Phu Quoc. This counter is quite close to the exit. Once this is done, we exited the airport and made our way to Terminal 3.
I am not sure this is walkable or not, but we had booked transport from the same agency we booked the fast track immigration
Overall in my opinion, we would not have made the connecting flight if we hadnt booked the fast track. Its an additional cost, but worth it
Just been there and making this transit.
As the post 22 mentioned there is a VN transit desk where you leave you luggage and then they point you (in my case) go outside and walk 200 meters to the right and there is a VN security check and a small inside waiting area. There is regular buses going from there to T3.
My guess is the bus drops you at the the T3 so you dont need to do the security check there..maybe less people??
Immigration is at your first point of arrival in Vietnam. Ie HCMC
When you depart your first flight you will get a transit sticker, after you pick up your luggage and clear customs there will be a VN transit desk. Take your luggage there and it will be taken to flight. I’m not sure how transfer to new terminal works, I’m guessing transit desk will give you instructions.
As you are on a single PNR, VN will look after you if you don’t make transit on time. Plenty of later flights.
Hi, if you have travelled already, can you share your experience. I have the exact same flight combination [Landing from Delhi to HCMC at 5.50 AM and take further flight to PQC at 8.10 AM]. Will appreciate if you can share inputs on the below points.
1. Will the immigration happen at HCMC or PQC considering we have an eVisa as we are going to other parts of Vietnam after Phu Quoc?
2. Will the luggage be required to be collected at HCMC Terminal 2 and then again given at HCMC Terminal 3 for the domestic flight to PQC?
3. Is 2 hours 20 minutes enough to do the above or should I opt for time saving via Fast Track Service?
No doubt, one day, they might get it all together. It’ll be even worse once the Long Thanh International airport opens with Tan Son Nhat being a domestic flights only ( I really can’t see it tbh ) with 40kms between the two airports. But saying that, the terminal that a flight departs from shouldn’t be a surprise. It’s written on the documentation. I tend to check up a few days before I fly, just in case.
It’s also one reason to never go international direct to a domestic flight (and vice versa) on unconnected tickets. Yes, it might cost more to have a single PNR but stress hassle is considerably reduced. Still we all love a happy ending!
Wow. That is some seriously useful information. I am sorry that you had to face a mad rush to get to your flight. Even though I have around 2 hrs between flights, but given that I am travelling with my old parents and that there is going to be a change in terminal, I will be best suited if I take the fast track.
