The train was great! very comfortable..I hear the buses get super cold? But there was a long ride after the train to get to sapa fyi
We are currently here and had slepper bus from Hanoi to Sapa and slepper train back to Hanoi. It is an experience both of them but bear in mind the bus stop in Sapa but the train station is in Lao Cai which is 1hour aprox driving from Sapa. We personally find the train more comfortable. We had our own 2 person cabin and the toilet was clean, noting to complain. With the slepper bus for every stop to go to toilet need to pay. Enjoy whatever you are choosing.
Train is better but bus is a little quicker.
Hanoi to Lao Cai (Sapa) night train. The private carriages on the train run by various companies – any suggestions for best one? Comfort and cleanliness. I realise the train is the same; run by Vietnam Rail.
Train, leaves at 2200hrs arrives at 07:30 then arrange a pickup from the train station to Sapa take’s around 50 minutes. Stay at the KK hotel in Sapa.
I did sleeper but because it got you right into town, the train is a fair way away from Sapa from my understanding.
I loved the bus. Took you door to door. I’m about 160cm and just tall/short enough to find the beds comfortable. I slept well and found it low key exciting having my little bed with curtains, charger for my phone, neon lights for mood, and being able to stare out the window if I wanted.
Bus is faster, cheaper, more dangerous and arrives at stupid o’clock.
We came by train two nights ago and it was simple and easy – we calculated it would save a night’s accommodation into the pricing and the fact of the travel time being while we slept.. it wasn’t a great sleep lets be honest but a great experience.
Hi. From my experience, the overnight sleeper train is usually the more comfortable option. You can lie down properly, sleep a bit better, and arrive in the morning feeling more refreshed compared to the sleeper bus. The bus is faster, but sleep quality is often lower.
