Thailand has my heart hands down (food, people, culture) but currently in Vietnam and Vietnam has my wallet.

Vietnam is easy on the budget, has nice beaches and a few beautiful places to visit like Ninh Binh, Hue, Hanoi and Hoi An. I feel like I saw the highlights in my 1st trip and may go back one day, but it isn’t high on my list.

I went to Thailand around 15+ years ago & went to Vietnam recently. They are very different but I love tropical beaches & didn’t really find any in Vietnam (I had a wonderful time & didn’t go for beaches, I just fancied a few beach days). I think they do exist in VN just not like in Thailand. So now I’m hankering after a trip to Thailand or Sri Lanka. I liked the food in Vietnam but i think thailand & cambodia food is just as good or better & you can’t beat curry imo.

Love both immensely. Both have lovely people, great food, beautiful sights and fabulous culture. If you have to choose go with Thailand if beaches are your priority and go with Vietnam if budget is your priority. Either way I’m sure you’ll fall in love.

I recommend simply doing BOTH. It’s a crazy cheap and short flights. We’re literally flying out to do both tonight! 2 nights in Bangkok, 3 nights in Chiang Mai, 4 nights in Hanoi Vietnam, then back to Thailand Krabi for 5 nights. I’ve done this before and it’s really easy, affordable and you get the “greatest hits” .

If i had to choose thailand. It’s more pricey but still. I have not been to the north thou. It mostly depends what do you expect from a holiday. If you clarify that would be easyer to answer

Definitely Vietnam. Thailand is now over represented by 2 nationalities, no need to mention names. If you know you know!!

I went to Thailand 30 years ago and in 2 weeks I am going to Vietnam. I hear Vietnam is developing quickly so it will not be the same in the next 10 years. This is exactly what happened to Thailand. It’s no longer what it used to be so just go to whichever one you want and enjoy. A lot if people do both during same trip!
