Hi, going to Vietnam in April.

Hi, going to Vietnam in April. We love to try local food wherever we travel – however I’m allergic to chili! Is it easy to ask for no chili? Or avoid chili in food? Thanks ☺️Hi, going to Vietnam in April. We love to try local food wherever we travel – however I’m allergic to chili! Is it easy to ask for no chili? Or avoid chili in food? Thanks ☺️

Yes Vietnamese food is milder than Thai or Malay or Indonesian. They rarely use chilli. We really love Vietnamese food.

Sorry chilies here are the best and they put them almost everywhere. Think you’re going to the wrong place. Guess you will be stuck eating pho

Chili is becoming like ice. Everybody says no to it meaning everyone nowadays who wants it has to ask for it like it’s an extra, 😭

To say “no chili” or “no spicy” in Vietnamese, say “Không cay” (no spicy) or “Không có ớt” (no chili). Adding “làm ơn” (please) makes it polite: “Làm ơn, không cay”. For a stronger request, you can say “Tôi không ăn được cay” (I cannot eat spicy). Have a card made:
