Hey everyone,Is Grab a reliable service to use for transport when in Vietnam? I was just doing some research and saw that getting the Grab app is best but to only book through that app that way everything is legit. I would assume people are saying that because you can also just use them in person or will the costs be way more than the app if you go that route?

It’s legit and working well. We were in Hanoi in the last couple of days and never had a problem with the app. Very convenient

Grab is good app!
Grab is great. Sometimes grab driver will approach u, put your destination on his phone and give u a little better price, but cash. I did it a few times when I had cash. BUT be aware of different people wearing Grab t-shirts, they are NOT Grab!

Grab app is great. Easy, fast and cheap. We caught a Grab from HMC Airport to District 1 and the driver told us we owed him more money to cover airport parking fee. We told him it’s included in Grab price but sussed out how much he wanted to avoid being in a sketchy situation in a foreign country. He said $20k dong – the equivalent of $1AUD so we didn’t even argue, just gave him his $20k and moved on.
I had a Grab driver who insisted I pay him in cash. He told me that when he accepted my request, he chose cash only and I accepted. I still have no idea. He may have gotten paid double. I got an email receipt saying I paid him and showed him and he got really upset and said cash only. That was the only time I used grab. Otherwise, we just stopped and asked drivers how much to this location. And that was what they charged us.
