We will be coming to Hanoi for 2 nights in November. Can anyone recommend a hotel close to Hoan Kiem Lake where you don’t have to cross the street to get there? 3-4 star. Thanks.

I’m having a hard time figuring out the location of places, thanks for clearing that up for me. Glad you think the location is good. I’ll probably book, as the price seems quite reasonable. Thanks!
“Anyone have an opinion on Golden Legend Boutique Hotel? It looks to be in the south…..”
It’s on the western side of the lake.
Ok, while I know nothing about the hotel itself, location wise, I really like that area.
The street it’s in is fairly narrow, and not an overly busy one with vehicles.
St Josephs Cathedral is nearby, and there’s also a number of narrow laneways to explore.
If you’re happy with the look of the hotel, and more importantly the reviews, I’d say go for it.

SimonPedal- I like your tip, lol!
Scott- Good advise, I am definitely overthinking it. I am sure it will all be good.
Anyone have an opinion on Golden Legend Boutique Hotel? It looks to be in the south and the reviews say it’s fairly quiet inside.
“Thanks for the tips Scott. So much to consider”
No problem.
But please, don’t over think it.
Read up, but don’t get too wrapped up in it all.
Hanoi is an amazing city, so just embrace it.

A tip for crossing the road. Find an old lady who is about to cross and shadow her. She’ll boldly (and slowly) cross with you in her shadow. Easy peasy.🚸
The north west section of the road round the lake is one way.
Looking the direction of the oncoming traffic I stepped off the kerb and was inches away from being hit by a bike speeding the wrong way. That was back in 2001 but I still shudder today, it was one of those close misses you don’t forget.
It taught me a very vital lesson.that I still use even in the UK. ALWAYS look both ways if crossing a one way street. You have more chance of being hit by the idiot going the wrong way than by people going the right way.

Thanks for the tips Scott. So much to consider
“As we will be arriving on a Friday do you recommend staying at a hotel where the streets are closed to traffic for the night markets?”
Staying in the vicinity of the area that has streets closed of over the weekend will make getting around on foot much easier.
It’s a nice ‘respite’, but l like the ‘manic’ (normal) version of Hanoi.
Re the night market; yeah, just geared for tourists, and for me, not worth any effort.
But, if you do go, hold, and be very aware, of your possessions, at All times.
Oh, and on one way streets, please don’t assume that everyone in / on a vehicle is abiding by the rule.

One way streets are easier. If there is a junction with traffic lights that helps. But don’t go blindly by the green man, if there is one. If the green man changes, when you are crossing, then get a move on, as they don’t allow much time.
Thanks. I will check out some videos, good idea!
