Grab App?I just downloaded the Grab app and tried to start using it as a trial. I am not yet in Vietnam. It looks like it makes you choose a city that you are in. Obviously, there are lots of cities that are not listed. Once you are in Vietnam, does it use your location to give you more options? We are planning to use it in areas that were not large cities as well (especially on Phu Quoc).

Try Xanh SM. It’s a Vietnamese company that is leading all taxi services in Vietnam nowadays. Why Xanh SM over Grab? Because Xanh only uses VinFast EVs, so much better for the environment there and with the current gasoline shortage, EVs make sense and Xanh has just offered to cut all fares by 10% to help out everyone.. Install the app for airport taxi service, regular taxi, food delivery, laundry pickup/drop off or intercity car rentals..

The Grab app is fantastic, and definitely the way to go! It’s finds your exact location via GPS, you type in share you want to go, then it gives a choice of the type of taxi to use (don’t be afraid to use the Motorbike taxis!), it then gives the price for that journey (very cheap!), and when a driver accepts, their name and registration plate number, a live map of where he is, an alert of when he’s close. The driver will usually call, so he can see exactly where you are. Link your payment card in the app so you’re not fumbling with cash all of the time. Safe, cheap and really effective way to get around. Don’t be afraid to wander around and get lost down the little alleyways.., just use a Grab to find you and get you where you want to go!
