Can I ask a realistic question.

Can I ask a realistic question. I see a lot of PRIVATE drivers in the comments. For those that took them over going on a group tour was it because of the size of your group or you truly preferred to just have the driver to yourself and not be around other tourist. I’m coming solo so I’m not sure how cost effective it would be for me to do most of my stuff with private drivers. I’m interested in your feedback.

You okay on back of a bike? Use easyriders and they are so much cheaper. You can use drivers with the small electric cars and solo would be fine, I know in Dalat they have a lot here and to get around in one is so cheap and easy if you can’t ride bikes..

Because you are travelling solo, I would definitely do a group tour. I usually book day trips with groups, when we were in Vietnam last we done a 2D1N trip to Halong bay and a few day trips, in a group. I’m seriously thinking about doing private trips when we go to Vietnam in May, but we are a group of 6, so it would be cost effective and safe. I have booked transport from airport to hotel and back though Facebook, you never pay in advance and let the person know your expectations, I wouldn’t do this solo. I have travelled all over the world, not solo and never had any problems.

You can get a grab to almost anywhere…… I always ask the driver if it’ll be easy to get a lift back…. They generally say yes or even better they offer a price to come and pick you up when you’re done…. You just call them.

It’s simply they want to go with their own group and create their own plans. It is more expensive when you book a private car through over night because you have to pay for the driver’s accommodation but the drive is happy to receive cash and he can arrange his own bed (usually the hotel that the driver take you would offer a bed for the driver to sleep over night as a commission) and it’s not compulsory but as a rule people give tips to the driver. It turns out expensive but if you shared the costs with others then it’s ok. I used to give the driver money for him to have a drink or eat something everytime i visited somewhere. If you are a solo traveller it is better to book through an agent, it’s cheap and good service. Sometimes, some private drivers are a bit dodgy and give you a headache.

You definately cannot drive in main cities in VN, get a private driver for big groups and long hauls. I hired one from NHD Transport, they comms via Watsapp, full english speaking drivers. Clean vehicles, on time, AC, safe driving and roomy cars. Would recommend them highly. I took a one way trip from Ninh Binh To Domestic T1 Hanoi.

Private drivers = flexibility and no crowds (best for groups).

Used private driver in Ninh Binh for one day. Didn’t fully utilize it as I thought I would. Don’t recommend.

If you know where you want to go to for a to – say the Mekong Delta then check out the tours on the Klook App or wait till you come and book through one of the Tour booking agents. They might have a 15 seat bus or smaller or a 42 seater bus then you decide and they normally pick you up from your hotel. So if you book today and want to go tomorrow there has never been a problem when we have booked over the years.
