Is it impossible to exchange US cash for VN in bills below $50? Some of the posts here make me think a $20 bill would be rejected everywhere. Thanks. Is it impossible to exchange US cash for VN in bills below $50? Some of the posts here make me think a $20 bill would be rejected everywhere. Thanks.

$20 are hard. Bring $50 and $100. At the bigger hotels they will generally take $20’s but they give you the side eye, the bills have to be perfect, no creases or folds or pen or tiny holes and it takes forever.
Only bring crisp $100 bills to exchange and $2 bills for lucky money 😉
They only want crisps $100 bill
Really depends where you go I went to money exchange at saigon square and had a bunch of old 20
I just exchanged $200 usd in $20’s for Dong with no problem.
I always bring brand new $100 bills when I travel. They all want big bills in every country and prefer them new.
Just got back from a month there. They’ll only take your bills if they’re crisp and clean with no marks at all on them. If you have ATM card, just pull out some Vietnamese dong and forget worrying about the quality of your US bills.
I know this is not really related to the question but I just went to Starbucks in Danang. They don’t take cash but they do take Apple Pay and surprisingly it worked for me. This is the first and only place that takes Apple Pay I have seen!
I exchange $20’s with a friend of mine there. Paying with US dollars really isn’t cool. There are ATM’s everywhere and you can take out 3mil or 5mil at a time. Don’t tip in dollars. It would be like someone coming to the states and tipping in dong. Some people think the dollar is almighty, it’s not.
I’m here now. Bring 100’s and make sure they are the newer ones in good condition. I’m coming home with a few Benjamin’s that are old and a new one with a ruffled edge.
