Hello!
Tomorrow evening I will travel from Hanoi to Lao Cai by train. Arrival time is 6:25 am. Onwards for the same day I have a train ticket from Hekou North to Kunming (departure 1:28 pm).
I know that I will have to cross the border by foot. My question is, if there will be taxis or other type of transport from the railway station to the border and from the border to the Chinese railway station.
The distances should be quite short, but I don’t want to walk because of the weight of my luggage and of myself…
Does somebody have an idea about the prices?
Best regards, Matthias

so, we can use didi for china border to Hekou bei station?
“So perfect tips – as expected!”
Great, glad to hear.
Thanks for coming back with a report, much appreciated. 🙏
Safe travels 🙂
Hello!
So, this week I did. the trip as described in my first post.
I just want to confirm the taxi rates, as described by Michael. I paid 50.000 dong in Vietnam and 15 RMB in China. Without any negotiation.
The taxi drivers were very friendly and communication was no problem. The entire border procedure was very smooth.
And yes, the mobile shop in Hekou, which Michael recommended, could easily sell me a SIM-Card. And the Bank of China, next door to it, dispenses RMB from a German Visa-Card.
So perfect tips – as expected!
Best regards, Matthias
“thank you”
My pleasure.
It occurred to me that we should be able to use one of the Chinese ride hailing apps like DiDi or Alipay to book cars just like Grab, Uber, whatever.
You can dig around the China forum for more intel on the subject of ride hailing apps.
Take care 🙂
Hello Michael,
thank you very much for your helpful replies!
Best regards!
“close to the border in Hekou?”
You have to walk away from the border a few hundred meters and then you will find telco offices.
You can’t buy SIM cards outside of authorized retail shops.
I’ve been using China Unicom SIM cards from Hekou for years. It’s next to the Bank of China:

16 Hebian St,
“if there will be taxis”
Yes.
Only normal taxis with meters they never use.
😂😂😂
The fare should be around 15 RMB (CNY) around 53000 VND

Hello!
Sorry, I forgot one thing: Can I get a Chinese SIM-Card right at or close to the border in Hekou?
Best regards, Matthias
