I never have my physical passport with me. I carry a digital copy.

I think it really depends on where you’re staying. If it’s a reputable hotel, using the in-room safe is usually fine. Personally, even when I’ve stayed at very nice hotels, I feel more comfortable keeping my passport, cash, and credit cards with me. I also carry copies of my passport and a small amount of spending cash in my crossbody, which stays with me at all times. I don’t keep all of my cash at one place.

My passport and extra cash is always left in my room. I’ve never had a problem and I am in Vietnam several times a year

Most of your better hotels will have a private safe. I did not have any issues when I was there twice. Just make sure you get copies of your passport and IDs on your phone just to be safe

I always carry everything on me, hotel safes are not safe, no matter how reputable the hotel is, especially the big ones with a lot of staff, they all have key cards, hotel safes are very easy to open

    1. Make sure phone is eSIM-unlocked before you leave or you’re good if you have physical SIM. SIM from Viettel is cheap.
