Looking for tips for a great hotel in Hanoi.

Looking for tips for a great hotel in Hanoi. I’ve been told that many on Booking.com are not like their ads, and having been scammed by 2 hotels in Egypt I’m a bit nervous. Hoping for genuine recommendations. I’d like to be near to old quarter, happy to walk up to about a mile. Just want it to be a lovely place to stay with things to do and quiet sleeping. A pool and a balcony would be a bonus but not a deal breaker! Mainly I want it to be friendly, not “service”y. I like real people, and Vietnamese food, not being treated like a posh person!

La Mejor Indochine is lovely, but you will want one of the cheaper rooms at the back as they are quiter, thats if you want to be in the heart of old town and the hustle and bustle, if you are looking for something quietter look for something over near St Josephs Cathedral (we stayed there for a night last week and it was much quieter)

We stayed in Shining Central Hotel and Spa in Old Quarter on 8/1/2026 for 3 nights. Was lovely. Staff very friendly and helpful … husband left his phone in Grab taxi and they recovered it for him. Definitely recommend x

Always double check with google, most of the time we got better prices on Agoda! Everything went perfect, just once we’ve been charged a bit more, but it was a five star hotel and very very cheap by my first booking! And all worth it

We stayed 6 nights at Manevi Premier Hotel right smack in the Old Quarter in December. New hotel, very friendly staff and breakfast included daily. Our room was small but very clean & modern. We spent our days and evenings out exploring everywhere by foot and it was nice knowing we were coming back to our hotel for a good nights sleep😁

We were just there and stayed in a mediocre hotel (Le Premiere) – upon checkout they aggressively begged us for a 10 rating on Booking. Be careful of reviews, as they may be slightly coerced. The Rey, Peridot Grand, La Sinfonia looked to be very nice but we didn’t stay there!

We have stayed at nostalgia hotel and spa; location was great. Was a little noisy but we do sleep with the windows open (so it’s mostly on us!). Found all the staff there lovely, breakfast included was nice & plenty of variety!

I just booked Scent premium! After weeks of looking i decided for this one based on 5400 reviews 9.6! I had booked a different one but had to cancel as it only had 86 reviews and some reviews were terrible plus when i contacted them re one matter their response was extremely slow and poor response! Whatever you decide to book go on social media too and see what normal travellers say about the hotel
