1. Chi Minh’s Mausoleum

• Your tour guide and car from Paradise Indochina Travel pick you up at your hotels then start discovering Hanoi City. The first place is Ho Chi Minh mausoleum (open only in morning time 8:00 AM – 11:30 AM and close on Monday & Friday weekly). It is the final resting place of Ho Chi Minh, the most iconic and popular leader of Vietnam, known to his people as ‘Uncle Ho’. His body is preserved here in a glass case at the mausoleum (albeit against his wishes).
• Started in 1973, the construction of the mausoleum was modeled on Lenin’s mausoleum in Russia and was first open to the public in 1975. Security is tight and visitors should dress with respect (no shorts, sleeveless shirts and miniskirts) and everyone has to deposit their bags and cameras before getting in. PLEASE NOTE that the mausoleum is closed from June 10 to August 12 yearly for maintenance.

2. One Pillar Pagoda

• Legend claims that The One Pillar Pagoda was built following a dream by the fatherless emperor in which the enlightened being Avalokiteshvara gave him a baby son resting on a lotus flower. Emperor Ly Thai Tong commissioned the pagoda to be created in resemblance of this lotus flower which is also the Buddhist symbol of enlightenment.
• The Emperor remained in gratitude to the bodhisattva and subsequently to to Quan Am, the Goddess of Mercy following the birth of his son. Inside the temple a richly gilded statue of Quan Am takes centre place at the main altar. Today, the concrete pillar that supports the tiny wooden pagoda is a replacement for the original one which was blown up by the departing French, it remains unclear how much of the wooden tem

5. Cầu Long Biên – Hà Nội

• In 1882, after the French army conquered Hanoi, the bridge was constructed in 1899 and completed in 1902. A symbol of the tenacity and resilience of the Hanoian people, the Long Bien Bridge was bombed on several occasions during the American War, and each time quickly repaired by the Vietnamese.
• The bridge, used by trains, mopeds and pedestrians, is undergoing reconstruction to restore its original appearance. It’s colourfully illuminated at night.

• The Hanoi Opera House (French: Opéra de Hanoï) was erected by the French colonial administration between 1901 and 1911 (you are allowed to visit the outside of the building). It is one of three opera houses that the French built during their time in Indochina, the others are Haiphong Opera House and Municipal Theatre in Ho Chi Minh city.
• It was modeled on the Palais Garnier, the older of Paris’s two opera houses, and is considered to be one of the architectural landmarks of Hanoi. The main architectural style of the Opera House is Neoclassicism.    09.00/14.00: Our tour guide will pick you up at your hotel and start the walking tour to discover the charm of the Old & French Quarter.
2. Kim Ngan Temple
   The Kim Ngân communal house is located on Hang Bac street in Hanoi’s old quarter. It is one of three structures built for social gatherings and worship of a legendary figure revered as the inventor of all trades. During the Indochina conflict, the structure was used as a training center for nurses and troops, as well as a lecture hall for teaching Vietnamese Romanized script. From 1954 through 2009, a number of families lived there, but by 2009, the remaining 25 households had been relocated in an effort to restore the structure to a close approximation of its original design. The repair work was carried out by Hoan Kiem District specialists with technical support from Toulouse, France.

3. Old House
   Visit the wonderfully renovated Heritage House (also known as “Memorial House”) to gain a better sense of the layout of tube-houses. A volunteer will generally accompany you through the many rooms and courtyards, pointing you to the magnificent carvings on the doors and balustrades, as well as specimens of traditional fine arts and handicrafts on display, like ceramics and silk paintings. A calligrapher can be practicing his craft in a corner, while a seamstress might be working on an embroidered painting. Some goods are for sale and could make a unique keepsake. (Please note that you have to cover the entrance fee for the guide also $1/p).

4. Bach Ma Temple
   The Bach Ma Temple, erected in the 11th century during the reign of Emperor Ly Thai To, is the oldest of its kind and an important structure in Vietnamese religion. It is permissible to visit the temple; however, appropriate clothes are required to show respect to the monks who live there.

   President Ho Chi Minh penned the Declaration of Independence that established the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in late August 1945, inside the house at No. 48 Hang Ngang Street in Hanoi. Historical artifacts and evidence related with President Ho Chi Minh have been preserved.

6. Lake of the Restored Sword (Hoan Kiem Lake)
   Hoan Kiem Lake is one of Vietnam’s most recognizable lakes, located right in the heart of the Old Quarter. Turtle Tower is surrounded by its peaceful waters and natural beauty. Ngoc Son Temple, an 18th-century pagoda accessible by Huc bridge, a stunning red and wooden footbridge, is located to the side. The shrine honors military commander Tran Hung Dao, who battled off Mongol invaders in the 13th century. Take a walk around the lake and pick a cafe where you can sit and enjoy the wonderful colors of the lake and street performers. This is best enjoyed on weekends between 7 p.m. Friday and 12 p.m. Sunday, when vehicles are prohibited, giving walkers a rare opportunity to dominate the streets. Hoan Kiem Lake, often known as the restored sword lake, is well-known among Vietnamese. According to legend, a turtle bestowed a magical sword on Le Loi, an old warlord, who used it to destroy the invading Chinese Ming dynasty before returning it to its true owner, the dragon king.

   St. Joseph’s Cathedral is a Catholic church on Nhà Chung Street, in the Hoàn Kiếm District of Hanoi, Vietnam. It is a late 19th-century Gothic Revival (Neo-Gothic style) church that serves as the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hanoi. The cathedral is named after Joseph, the patron saint of Vietnam.

Tour Itinerary

1. 7:00 am: Enjoy a convenient pick-up from your pick-up point and start your scenic drive to Duong Lam Ancient Village, located 50 km away from Hanoi
2. 9:00 am: Arriving at Duong Lam, you will find a peaceful countryside atmosphere, with a picturesque northern village filled with banyan trees, water wells, preserved architecture, and old brick houses
3. The Mong Phu Village Gate was built in 1553 and is the only ancient gate left in Duong Lam today. Appearing like a house with a sloping roof, its surrounded by banyan trees, a water wharf, a lotus pond, and rice paddy fields. It’s certainly a great introduction the village!
4. Along the clean tiled village road and among the dark yellow laterite walls, visitors can visit the Mong Phu communal house built in 1553 under King Le Than Tong with an area of 1800 m2. After many restorations, the communal house still retains its early 19th-century architecture and sculpture, representing the traditional architecture of the ancient Northern Delta
5. Giang Van Minh Monument was built during the reign of King Tu Duc, to commemorate Tham Hoa Giang Van Minh ‘s great merits for the nation. The temple has precious relics such as couplets, stone steles, and incense burners that are well-preserved
6. Explore old buildings and communal houses, and take pictures of rice mills, ancient wells, and the rich natural landscapes surrounding the area
7. Continue your tour to Mia Pagoda. The highlight of this temple is the extremely unique set of Buddhist statues were hand-sculpted by ancient artisans
8. 11:30 am: Take a break from your tour to have lunch at a local family’s house. Enjoy Vietnamese specialties that include ugtinous wine, che lam (Vietnamese nutty ginger sticky rice bar), and other dishes chock full of bold flavors

10. Not far from Phung Temple is the temple and tomb of King Ngo Quyen, famous for his historic victory in 938 against South Han troops. The temple and tomb is built on a high hill and is one of the most of the beautiful and popular spots in Duong Lam. The tomb is a traditional Vietnamese-style tomb made of bricks and stone with a sloping roof, and has been restored and reconstructed many times
11. 1:30 pm: It’s time to return to Hanoi. Once back, put on the traditional Ao Dai and get your pictures taken by a professional photographer as you tour some of Hanoi’s best attractions
12. Stop at Sword Lake, considered the heart of the capital with unique French architectural buildings and traditional Vietnamese architecture. You also get the opportunity to visit the Ngoc Son ancient temple, situated on a small island in the lake (entrance fee at your own expense)
