I am planning my Vietnam and Laos trip and would like to get your recommendations. Will this work? Appreciate any places to see and commute between the locations. I am thinking of going to a location and renting or going on a local tour. Any thoughts?

It is no less rushed and pointless than your own itinerary.
That is my opinion as a traveller who likes to explore not one who wishes to tick locations off a list. We are all different.
Hmmm, only 1 day in .Hanoi? But 3 in Hoi An. This is the trouble with tours.
Good luck going by car to Muang Ngoi. Hopefully they go by boat.
Does it not include flights?
Tours suit some people. I did one in lndia once, never again.
For me it is too rushed apart from Hoi An and Luang Prabang.

Are you doing a tour or DIY?
The tours work (for some) because all the transfers/ground transportation is organized for you.
This inerary is really impractical for DIY travelers.
