What’s the tipping principle in Vietnam?

What’s the tipping principle in Vietnam?1) You expect good service for the price, and tip only for exceptionally great service, or2) You tip for normal, good service, and only not tip for bad service? Also, what’s the usual percentage?(Please only genuine Vietnam-specific knowledge, not your home customs that you followed also on your vacation.)

We just returned from Vietnam and found tipping to be quite stressful. We tipped for everything but we still aren’t sure if we over tipped, under tipped, should have tipped, should not have tipped. Very confusing but we basically did tip and based our tip on cost of the service (shuttle, tour, restaurant). For hotels we left a small tip for cleaning staff.

I am currently in a wheelchair or on crutches bc i tore my ACL and am awaiting surgery. We went to the grocery store and the employees will bring our cart of groceries back to our apartment (about a 10 min walk each way) we have tried to tip each time. Insisted on it, and each one has refused to take a tip, even a small one.

I tip all food grab delivery drivers and my barber. Fast food and a steady hand is all I want in life.

I tipped almost as much as our massage was because they charge so little. Same with Grab drivers. 20% for wait staff.

In many tours, tipping for your tour guide and driver is usually expected and considered part of the tour culture. It is a way to show appreciation for their service and effort during the trip. While tipping customs may be different in each country, in guided tours, tips for the guide and driver are often customary
