We have a 7-hour layover at Hanoi airport. Is it possible to store our luggage there and maybe go into town to pass the time? Thank you 😊We have a 7-hour layover at Hanoi airport. Is it possible to store our luggage there and maybe go into town to pass the time? Thank you 😊

7 hours is not enough, especially if you have a connecting flight to catch. Immigration clearance ang luggage pickup in Hanoi takes about 30-45 minutes. Getting from the airport to the Old Quarter is 1:30 to 2 hours. Getting back might be more. So that leaves you with just 2 someting hours to roam around, considering you’ll be checking in to your next flight.

So 1 hour ride each way in to the city. Assuming your next flight is international you need to be there 3 hours before departure and say an hour to get through customs and collect bags(again assuming international arrival). That leaves you 1 hour in the city. Doable but personally I wouldn’t see it being worth it.

Hello Harley, it’s doable to go into central Hanoi and visit the Old Quarter. Yes the heavy traffic can be tricky to guess though depending on the time of the day. I am from Hanoi Old Quarter n for years my car/taxi journeys between Noi Bai airport and the Old Quarter often take 30-45′. Rarely over 1hr. Guess if you book a pickup tour guide you could see more in 2-3hrs. For your domestic connecting flight, being there 90′ before the flight is sufficient especially if you will have already checked in. Going through customs for domestic flights are often quick n simpler. Staff at the airport are helpful in case your time is tight. Even for international flights 2hrs is ok. Noi Bai is a small airport and quite efficient with queue control. Go for it n if you’re organised n fast you can have 2-3hrs in old quarter to experience the uniqueness of Hanoi.
