We are heading to Vietnam, Cambodia then Thailand in April/May.

We are heading to Vietnam, Cambodia then Thailand in April/May. I’m wondering should we take Canadian money with us to exchange there, or just bring our debit card and withdraw money from the ATM’s when needed? Thanks!

We are in Saigon and withdrew at VP bank. No extra charges. Think Agri is the same. Sometimes machines run out of cash though.

I am in Vietnam via Canada. It’s awesome here. Bring VND cash. Can’t convert at gold shops anymore. Credit cards are accepted. Not all Canadian banks handle VND either.

Depending on the Wise card, you can several free withdrawals.

You can use your bank card pretty easily here. But even better would be if you were to get yourself a Wise card. Load your money up on that and spend like a local.

We took $1500 Canadian (worth of Thai baht) with us and have been using the atms ever since without issue. The machines do charge approx $10 plus your home back may charge $5 but we didn’t want to carry more cash at a time. We’ve been here two months in Thailand without issue.

USD is needed if doing Visa on Arrival at land border from Thailand to Laos and I think also going into Cambodia. USD was accepted at hotels in Luang Prabang. In Laos, the maximum you can withdraw at ATMs each time is approx $125 CAD. So if your bank is charging ATM fees it starts to add up. In Thailand, ATM service fees are expensive.
