Staying 4 nights in Hue and would like to visit both sites on the one day.
Would a self propelled bike rental be a practical way to solve the travel logistics or is moped rental the norm in Hue? I do have a full motorbike licence.
Alternatively, would car/motorbike taxi make more sense? Are pickups at the tomb sites to be expected or would retain ones driver/riders for the full expedition?

India11 – can I ask how much you paid for a driver half day to see the tombs? Did you book through hotel?
Further research is tempting me to add HuyenTran centre and Thanh Toan bridge to the itinerary, which would extend things to a loop of well over 50 km – far beyond our cycling capabilities.
A full day taxi driver would appear to command a fare of about 150000VND which seems reasonable for the amount of exertion saved. Any advice on how one approaches finding a driver in Hue?
Rely on our hotel to make the arrangements?
You might like to include Tu Duc as well if you have time. It is my favourite and quite different to the other two.
We had a taxi driver for an afternoon to take us to them all.
If visiting the citadel, you can get a combo ticket that covers citadel plus the tombs, and it is valid for two days.
You might want to wait and see what the weather is going to be like, before deciding about bike or car.
No, Hue is not Hanoi or HCMC, with regards to traffic.
Busy, at times, in certain parts, but biking isn’t too ‘scary’.

Many thanks for the helpful info.
Checking options online has me leaning towards e-bike rental through Klook. The distance to the sites from our hotel don’t appear too great and the electric assist should be a help if the terrain is a little hilly.
I am making the presumption however that car and moped traffic around Hue will not match that of what one sees on video in Hanoi.
Yes, they are easy to accomplish in one day. They also offer a good contrast to each other in terms of style and time within the dynasty.
moped or motorbike is more the norm. I haven’t seen self propelled bikes in Vietnam. Though sure they exist. If you are relatively fit, you could bike to both in a day.
Otherwise, you should be able to hire a driver for a full/half day to take you around. it should cost too much either. Most people who visit will already have their own transport arranged, so its not as likely you will have taxi’s hanging out hoping for a fare. The tombs are relatively outside of the city, so a taxi or grab is gonna be more challenging.
