Hi all,

I’ll be in Vietnam with my family (inc 2 children, ages 12 and 9) in April this year and would really appreciate some itinerary advice. We’re flying into HCMC on 1 Apr and out of Hanoi on 15 Apr, but everything else is yet to be planned.

We’d like to fit in as much as possible, but the kids will want a few days of beach/chill time, so we’ll need 3-4 nights in PQ or somewhere similar, but can then skip beaches elsewhere. Current thinking is as follows:

01 Apr – HCMC, land at 13.50

02 Apr – HCMC

03 Apr – HCMC

04 Apr – Mid-morning flight to Phu Quoc

05 Apr – Phu Quoc

06 Apr – Phu Quoc

07 Apr – Phu Quoc

08 Apr – Mid-morning flight to Danang / evening in Hoi An

09 Apr – Hoi An

10 Apr – Late morning flight to Hanoi or Hai Phong

11 Apr – Halong Bay cruise

12 Apr – Halong Bay cruise

13 Apr – Hanoi

14 Apr – Hanoi (or Nimh Binh day trip?)

15 Apr – Hanoi, flight home at 19.30

I’d be very grateful for any thoughts, especially if there are any obvious problems I’ve missed!

Thanks

Nathan

I’ve planned a similar schedule to your original idea but am going to Siem Reap for Angkor Wat instead of PQ, then flying from there to Da Nang for Hoi An.

Thanks all – this is very helpful.

The consensus seems to be the we should cut Phu Quoc, in favour of beach time around DaNang and a bit longer in Hoi An or Hanoi. Does anyone have a specific beach hotel/resort recommendation in the DaNang area? The Intercontinental Sun Peninsula is the sort of thing we’d be looking for, but the price point after adding the kids (almost £1k/night) seems incredibly high for Vietnam! Thanks again.

Two domestic flights to get you just two nights in Hoi An isn’t worth the effort.

Scrap it, or scrap Phu Quoc, and get your beach fix in Hoi An.

You can then add more time to Hanoi.

Another vote for skipping PQ. Get your beach time around Da Nang.

Will save on travel time, save on flight costs and PQ ain’t that good.
