I am departing for Hà Giang tomorrow for a slow-paced 10- or 11-day trip. I’ve recently heard that local buses from Hà Giang only travel to cities in different provinces. I’m sincerely hoping this isn’t strictly true and that some very local means of transport is available. While I don’t mind spending a few hours on a motorbike, a distance of 100km is too much for me. Since I am a solo traveler, hiring a car or jeep is financially prohibitive. Does anyone have any advice?

How was your Ha Giang Loop trip? I’m solo traveller as well and going to HGL coming September. The jeep / car tours are not only expensive but also don’t accept solo traveler.
How is local bus there? Do the local buses stop at viewpoints?

I went to Meo Vac in June.
A friend in HGC organized a 16-pax van to pick me up at a hotel.
The van wouldn’t start after our restroom break in Quan Ba.
All the other passengers piled into a 7-pax SUV. I didn’t. I waited several hours for a mini-bus. Arrived in Meo Vac at 17:00, the journey took around eight hours.
For the trip back to HGC, a hotel owner in Meo Vac town organized a seat on a limo-mini bus. This journey was fine.
Getting back to the view point question:
You can get off these vehicles any place you like. However, you could wait hours for the next one to pass by.
Better to travel light hire a motorbike taxis.

Hi, no need to stop at Yen Minh, spend more time in Dong Van and try and be there in a Sunday for a local market. Buses between towns are easy. I stopped on the way to Dong Van at a homestay and did day trips to Hemp village with the owner of the homestay on her bike and her husband met me at the bus stop. In Dong Van the hotel owner drove me to the Chinese border and neighbouring village and stopped for photos all along the way. He took me to the next accom which was spectacular and I did the Sky Path walk. Had to get a moto bike taxi for 8 km to Meo Vac and then bus to Ha Giang. I can recommend where I stayed in Ha Giang as she arranged the homestay pick up and also can recommend the hotel in Dong Van. Spent 10 days and could have stayed longer. I can post specifics if you would like re accom
Yes, there is local transport within Ha Giang province, but options are quite limited. Buses do run from Ha Giang city to places like Dong Van and Meo Vac, with fares around 150,000–200,000 VND per trip. However, they may run infrequently—some routes have just one trip a day. Since detailed information online is scarce, it’s best to ask your hotel or homestay for the latest local transport options.

There are mini-buses buses running between HGC and Dong Van via Quan Ba and Yen Minh.
There are mini-buses running between Meo Vac and HGC.
The tricky part is between Dong Van and Meo Vac. I don’t know if there are any currently running or not.
Otherwise, you can hire a motorcycle taxi (xe om) or hire a car and driver (taxi) for the one hour drive.
Suggest you download the Xanh SM ride hailing app, it works in Ha Giang City for sure.

The area next to the bus station in HGC is a big bus transport hub. You’ll see shop house style garages/offices and tea shops. Ask around and someone will know what time the mini-buses start running in the morning.
