Top Bars in Da Nang for Solos

As a first-time visitor to Vietnam, figuring out where to go out at night has been quite a hurdle, even for someone who considers herself a street-smart New Yorker. I did find a handful of spots in Da Nang where I felt completely at ease as a woman traveling by myself. Since I primarily gravitate toward cocktails—and am not really a club or pub patron—I know this list is likely incomplete. I’d love to hear your other recommendations!

Te Bar

This is a truly global and cosmopolitan bar, totally unexpected for Da Nang. Frankly, it’s more sophisticated than most venues I came across in Saigon. The cocktails were spot-on. I highly recommend the Vietnamese cuisine-inspired drinks; I tried the Pho and My Quang cocktails and they are definitely worth a repeat. On the downside, the place has a distinct scent of cigar smoke and really needs an interior refresh. It also presents as a bit sterile and cold. Still, the quality is impressive overall.

Bar Libre

This is a precision Japanese cocktail establishment that seems to have transitioned from Japanese ownership. They expertly craft first-rate classic cocktails served in appropriate stemware, alongside a few signature house drinks that show great promise, even if they aren’t fully perfected yet. I counted about 16 seats at the bar, and most were unoccupied. I don’t believe this reflects on the quality or service—the team was both warm and professional. My only uncertainty is whether most tourists and locals will pay the premium for this level of flawless execution. Their loss, in my opinion.

Makara Bar

I never anticipated finding a legitimate tiki bar in Vietnam, especially one that maintains such high standards. With shelves stacked with rum, freshly pressed juices, house-made syrups, and cool glassware, this place has tiki mixology mastered, and they somehow manage it without overly serious bartenders (how is that possible?). The staff is welcoming and friendly, and being primarily female, that offered extra reassurance. It’s also an aesthetically pleasing and impressive concept. They skillfully utilized local materials and managed to avoid the dreaded tiki kitsch—which I personally despise—in favor of a more elegant build.
