The Ha Giang Loop for a “Seasoned” Couple?

My spouse and I, in our late 50s, are keen to experience the Ha Giang loop on a motorcycle tour. However, most of the guides and YouTube videos online suggest that it caters mostly to younger backpackers.

We have definitely moved past the stage of overcrowded buses and shared dormitory rooms, so we are looking specifically for private-room lodging and truly VIP transportation from Hanoi to Ha Giang.

Is this kind of tailored trip feasible? Or should we concede and leave this adventure to the younger demographic?

Thank you in advance for your advice x

Hey Kate. How was the trip? I’m also in my 50s and inspired by Ha Giang but also intimidated. Never been on a bike before. Should I do it??

Hi. Who have you booked this with via private car, and do you mind saying the price? Thanks.

You’re never too old – but the older you get the more you want comfort and privacy, I think. We are going in June 24 for my partner’s 60th. He is a very experienced biker, done lots of tours, but is joining me in a jeep tour as he thinks it will be more relaxing. My son lives in Vietnam and rides his bike in Hanoi but he chose to do the tour last month on the back of a rider as his friend couldn’t drive. He felt like it would be tiring being the rider as he’s not experienced at this type of riding- just risking life and limb in Hanoi traffic, lol. Also, not able to appreciate the views the same if you’re the rider. He’s in his 20’s and happy to do the jeep tour as well. He’s 6ft 3 and found the previous pillion journey not so comfy. It’s horses for courses no matter what your age. I’m planning luxury hotels before and after just in case we end up in homestays on the floor, lol. It’s an adventure I’m not prepared to miss, my son says it’s stunning, His friend who he works with has done the loop 4 times now and would go again. Obviously you have been by now but I thought I’d leave a comment for future readers. How did you get on?
