So I see all these posts about all the fakes and dupes in Vietnam. I’m from New York City the fakes and dupe capital of the world. I’m wondering what makes Vietnam so special for its fakes and dupes? We are leaving to come there on Tuesday. We are getting to Hanoi next week.

I know a genuine Calvem Klaln when I see one.
Ha ha!!! I bought a fake copy of a supposedly high end pool stick in Hanoi for 20 bucks and it came with a case and tip scratcher. Unbeatable quality for 20 bucks! Best souvenir of all time!
Closer to China
Fake capitol?
Being adjacent to China, it helps a lot in this department! LOL
A large number of legitimate “designer” items…clothing, shoes, and handbags especially, are actually manufactured in Vietnam for the specific labels.
Are the markets in HCMC and Hanoi the same items and do prices vary? I just left Ben Than and it’s hotter than heck and can’t even walk through there’s so many people. I want a couple of dresses but don’t have much room to pack. Hanoi is the end of the trip
lot of the stuff at the market is extras / faulty. but thailand is better in my opinion
Nothing. I lived in New York and have seen kate spade on the streets for decades. 🙂. Same thing – you can get north face, fjalkranken (sp) backpacks or shoe brands on the cheap and manufactured in China. Like Nike for $20. But believe me. They don’t wear like Nike and they don’t last like Nike. You get what you pay for.
Hanoi is good for shopping. NorthFace or Patagonia jackets, flees… about 600k dng / 30€.
