Mosquitoe bites – update! – got sorted, got antihistamines and a itch spray from a better pharmacy, thanks all for the tips! Hi everyone,I’ve been eaten alive by mosquitoes 🦟 😒 I got this cream from a pharmacy but its not doing much and I’m going crazy its so itchy! Can anyone recommend a tablet for bites like benadryl but sold in Vietnam? Thank you – a very itchy Irish girl 😅

Take a couple of antihistamines daily. I feel for you. Ask the chemist for something with deet in.

You need to focus on avoiding the mosquito bites in the first place rather than treating the bites for itching. Fucicort is a dual combination of fusidic acid (an antibiotic) and cortisone (a steroid). Having a steroid it should not be used on the same area of skin for a long period of time, ideally not more than 3 days. Antihistamines or cortisone both work for preventing itching but antihistamines are preferable. That said, what you need to ensure having is mosquito repellent which you apply religiously. The danger of mosquito bites in tropical and warm countries is not the bite itself but the bugs and diseases they transmit. Also if you are outside the urban areas in Vietnam and in the more rural parts, you may need to ensure you keep taking those antimalarials.

Mupirocin ointment should help and is sold widely in Vietnam

Have you tried putting a teaspoon under hot water (don’t burn yourself) and put the back of the spoon directly onto the bite. That’s what I do in Australia when we get bitten. The heat draws out the itch and gives relief for about 12 hrs.

Make a brew and use the hot teaspoon. Tap it on the bites as hot as you can bear for a few seconds.

I use a electronic zapper, you apply it just after being bitten and it denatures the protein in the bite, cost under £10

I’m pretty sure that the cream you have there is a steroid cream for Eczema.
