We will be visiting Ho Chi Minh City in October and are hoping to book a boat trip on the Mekong River. My husband has some difficulty with movement (relying on a cane) and poor flexibility, so we are seeking a tour that incorporates a slightly bigger vessel for a portion of the journey. Regrettably, I doubt he would manage the grotto section of any tour. Ideally, we are looking for an excursion lasting between 4 and 6 hours. Can anyone suggest a suitable tour or a reliable company? Thank you.

Since your husband has mobility concerns, I’d recommend a private tour to Ben Tre instead. My Tho is a common starting point for Mekong tours because it’s closer to Ho Chi Minh City, but compared to Ben Tre, it’s usually more crowded, touristy, and less peaceful. Group tours often go to My Tho for convenience, but it may not be ideal for older travelers who need a more relaxed pace and comfortable space. Private tour is much more flexible and comfortable than a group tour, as you can skip activities that aren’t suitable, and the guide can provide more personal assistance.

We stayed in the Lotte and bought a very nice day boat tour to the Delta. It included a visit to the Market and lunch cooked in a school. We took a taxi from the hotel to the boat loading area. Looking at the pictures from 2015 I can see the tours were “Authentic River Experience”. The boat was small and held maybe 15 or so passengers. We got to exit at a small village and visit a local dwellings. We also saw some wartime bunkers in the dwellings. We also stopped at a number of Temples.

I googled it and discovered it was “Les Rives Authentic River Experience”. They have tours with and without the tunnels. Ours was without.

Did you mean Cu Chi tunnels?

Yes – meant the tunnels. I can do them but I don’t think he can.

Mekong Riverboat tour? Like going up the Mekong to where? Unclear what kind of tour? Just up and down or do you want something more? If you want the Mekong from HCMC likely My Tho is your best option they have a harbor, port, warf, pier thing there with several options. Right on the Mekong. Unless your using Mekong in the generic term most do, meaning the Mekong Delta in general? Sorry I don’t know how to help you….
