LANTERN BOAT RIDEWhile in the old town hoi an. A guy approached us offering a lantern boat ride 150k / person. We agreed for 1M for 8person. While walking to his boat, an angry group of tourist approach us ” He’s a scammer! Blah blah blah”. “He charged me 400k per person blah blah blah”. So we cancelled the deal and as we reached the boat area it’s just 180k PER BOAT (7 adults 1 kid).sorry i dont have photo o the guy.

It’s sad that Hoi An has turned into a such a tourist trap. It wasn’t like this 15 years ago when I visited. It was serene and peaceful.
So if I booked via GetYourGuide for 2 ppl for 237k ($16) for 2 people is that too much? Should I just buy on the spot or schedule up front?
You were offered a way cheaper deal anyway. There were 18 and we paid 100k each equal $6 aud so im not complaining
Hopefully you still tipped the man 100000 Dong. Poverty is a real problem in Vietnam !
Please note that the boat they offered is a motorized one which will take you farther through the river. This is different from the cheaper and smaller one which will only go around the small canal.
Whole boat 100k week ago
Never buy anything in any Country from people who approach you, they are always expensive scammers.
We book lantern boat ride
Im Hoianese, I’m so sorry to hear that, but in Hoi An there’s a boat association and they sell tickets for about 150,000 VND/ BOAT, for 2-3 people. You should buy tickets there instead of following the calls from people on the street.
Don’t worry too much about it. Many of those people working the boats etc live in near poverty. If you’re really quibbling over $25 for 8 ppl then something’s wrong.
