Is Hanoi walkable to all the main sites or a problem due to all the scooters ?

Is Hanoi walkable to all the main sites or a problem due to all the scooters ?Have 1 full day to pick off North Train St, Tran Quoc Pagoda, St Joseph’s Cathedral, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, shopping time. Would be better to get a driver to take us around to all these or achievable in a day under our own steam?

Very easy to walk everywhere, you’ll soon get used to the traffic. Just go at the same speed and they’ll work around you

Due to time limitations it might be an idea to do the hop on /off bus.

Walk and go with the flow. Most spots are an easy walk. Take your time and enjoy what the streets have to offer.

We spent 4 weeks there and walked everywhere easily. Only Grab was from the airport and to the bus station when leaving.

We walked everywhere we wanted to visit. One day we walked to West Lake, hired bikes to explore further them walked back to West Lake. Generally on our trip to Vietnam we were averaging about 16000 steps a day. Walking is a great way to explore, see the daily activities, feel a part of the city. Crossings were busy but perfectly manageable, for those with walking difficulties there seemed to be more respect. It’s hard to decribe but traffic and crossings seem crazy but they just seem to work.

We’re 70 and we walked everywhere even to West Lake and back really got a feel for Hanoi met people and their shops, saw locals relaxing some playing badminton and so much more along the way .. once you get used to crossing the roads you’ll soon be a pro .. so good if you want a Grab it’s very simple app to use & efficient service. Have fun 🙏

I walk and cycle everywhere in Hanoi. Traffic ‘rules’ take a bit of getting used to but you’ll be fine 🙂

From Hoàn Kiếm Lake, you could walk to all of the sites on your list (within about 30 minutes radius).
