Hello everyone – I will be arriving at the Saigon airport from Singapore on one carrier (Scoot), and then require a self-transfer to catch a connecting flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Dalat with a different airline (Vietnam Airlines).
Assuming we won’t have any checked baggage, what is the procedure for this transfer? Specifically, am I required to clear immigration upon arrival in Saigon, and then re-check in at a separate domestic terminal? How much time do you estimate this entire process might take?

Sorry for jumping into this thread! I’m going through the same process and just want to confirm , after immigration at the International Terminal in HCMC, there won’t be another immigration check at the Domestic Terminal for my flight to Dalat, right? I’ll be flying in from Kuala Lumpur. Thanks a bunch!

Correct. You will not go through another Immigration Control for your flight from SGN to Dalat, as it is considered a domestic flight. The normal security ID check and baggage screening do apply for your domestic segment.
Most likely your flight to Dalat is with Vietnam Airlines. VNA flight check-in and departure is now in the brand new Terminal T3. Make sure you check which Terminal your flight is departing from.
I have not done this International-to-T3 transfer but from what I know, walking is probably not an option due to the distance involved. There are information on this forum about the new T3 domestic terminal.

That unfortunately is the big unknown. On a good day, I’ve been waiting downstairs at luggage reclaim within 20mins of us landing. If you have no luggage you might be in the domestic terminal by the time 30 mins strikes. But on a bad day, well, that is where the big unknown comes in. And don’t forget the cut off time for check in – 40mins. And then you have security, which can, in itself, be time consuming.
As Scott writes, if the plane lands on schedule, you will most likely be ok.

Yes, immigration will be done in HCMC.
And yes, you will need to exit the international terminal, make your way to the domestic terminal, which is roughly a 5 minute walk, and check in there.
Will 2.5 hours between flights be enough?
If your plane is on time, and immigration doesn’t take too long, then it should be.
Would l try and do it?
I don’t like clock watching or stress, so no, not a chance.
