I have flights booked for a 14 trip to Northern Vietnam in late September and need help creating an itinerary. Looking at Hanoi, Sapa, Nihn Bihn, a 2 night cruise in Ha Long Bay. The part I’m struggling with is there is no real clear route, since everything is on opposite sides of Hanoi, and all the travel seems to run through there. We typically don’t like to be on the move all the time, so we try to do 3+ nights in each place. My original thought was Hanoi > Sapa > Nihn Bihn > Ha Long Bay > Hanoi. Obviously the Ha Long Bay cruises board pretty early, and would need to be closer. I’m not sure how easy it is to find transportation between cities that aren’t Hanoi. There are 3 of us, and we don’t need super budget, but not looking to break the bank either. Also if there are any cities worth visiting that aren’t list and wouldn’t be too far out of the way would be appreciated.

2 night is more then enough in ninh binh, and you can take a grab or train from hanoi. We took a grab and it was about 1 mill one way
We did almost that exact route in summer 25. We did overnight bus Hanoi to Sapa, overnight bus Sapa to Ninh Binh. Minibus (shared) Ninh Binh to Haiphong (and ferry to Cat Ba Island). We did Lan Ha Bay instead of Halong Bay (a little less touristy). We then flew Haiphong to Da Nang and did mid and south Vietnam. Go12 app is fab for all transport.
Hanoi > Sapa > Ninh Binh > Ha Long Bay > Hanoi is the good options.
Hope this helps you some
