I have been bouncing around Southeast Asia for two months and the hostels with pools were always the social center. Met half my travel friends in a pool in Bali, no joke. Now I am heading to Hoi An for a week and every hostel I look at seems to be a converted old townhouse with a nice courtyard but no pool.
Does a social hostel with an actual pool exist in Hoi An, or is that more of an An Bang beach thing? I would love a private room under $25 a night if that is realistic. Happy to stay a bit outside the old town if the vibe is right.
Also honest question: is a pool even worth it in December? I have no idea what Hoi An weather is like then. If it is chilly and grey I will just pick the prettiest courtyard and save my money.

Old town hostels are mostly converted shophouses, no pools, you are right. The pool hostels are all out by An Bang beach. I stayed at Under the Coconut Tree for 4 nights, private room was about $20, and the pool was the social hub every afternoon. 10 minute bike ride into town, they rent bikes for 30k a day. In December the pool is still fine midday, it is not cold, just less baking hot.

Replying to WanderlustWill @WanderlustWill That sounds exactly like what I am after. Is the bike ride into town at night ok though? I do not love cycling on dark roads after dinner.

Replying to NomadNina @NomadNina Totally fine, everyone does it. The road to An Bang is flat and there are street lights most of the way. I did it half asleep after bia hoi more times than I will admit.
