Hi just wondering if anyone facing same issue – due to fly back to UK with Emirates via Dubai and currently it’s a 2.5hr layover.UK Foreign Office is advising against transiting via Dubai Emirates are offering full refund on flight but Insurance company are saying that unless airline actually cancels flight, we are not covered for any extra costs: flights are a fortune and extra accommodation would be required too.Am struggling to understand how we would not be covered by insurance if we are following strict Foreign office advice and costs are incurred due to avoiding a war zone!

Inbound (going home) is classed as essential travel you are allowed to

Advice is just that. It is not a sanction, simply advice. Insurance is not liable due to advice

The cover provided by the insurance contract or policy is based on the policy wording and any exclusions, such as the exclusion for war, not government advice

Take full refund that they are offering. You have to absorb costs for rebooking

We know two people who booked new expensive flights home and waited for the airline to finally cancel so they got their refunds ..which didn’t cover the cost of the new flights. They just had to eat the cost.

We were in same situation but in Thailand at the weekend. We opted to fly back with Emirates through Dubai and are now home. We had booked back up flights with EVA air which was a very long and complicated route and was 5 days after our normal flights and expensive and I have now cancelled these. The bottom line is how risk averse you are as it’s either take your original flights and go through a war zone or find yourself alternative flights at considerable expense plus extra hotel costs etc. Not ideal either way is it!!

Most if not all travel insurance doesn’t cover for any “acts of war”…
