Are the compact ‘limousine’ vans, similar to those servicing the Hanoi-Sapa route, also available for the journey from Hanoi to Mu Cang Chai?
Additionally, what time of year is considered optimal to view the Mu Cang Chai rice terraces in their fully green state?

I understood that there are several shared limo services Han-Mcc. They may be more available in the high season Sep-Oct. Yet couldn’t find these to chat on whataapp prior to arrival for info booking.
No.
Only sleeper style buses.
I do the trip by mini-buses because I prefer them. Takes forever, 11 hours one time. Change busses in Yen Bai City.
“What is the best month to see the Mu Cang Chai rice fields in green?”
It’s green now.
Some communes will start harvesting in August.

Ok thx,
sleeper style buses , are they only driving at night? Or also during daytime? How long for this sleeper bus, i think 11 hours in a mini bus is to long for me , im almost 2m of height…
Maybe is going by train to Yen Bai and from there by taxi or bus a good option?

I was going to suggest you look for buses on the Vexere bus booking website.
But, they aren’t showing.
If you look on 12GO you can see that there are sleeper buses running during the day and they claim it takes around seven to eight hours.
Eight hours is about right with restroom /food/coffee breaks.
12GO is also showing limo-vans and claiming that the journey takes five hours. That’s not possible.
Ha Noi to Yen Bai City is via the Express way and takes around two hours.
From Yen Bai City to MCC is five hours by car if all goes well. Will be longer by bus.
I will check on the limo-vans tomorrow and see what the story is.

What I’ve come up with so far:
Xe Daily Limousine operates a limo-van between Hanoi and Nga Ba Kim Commune, approximately 30 minutes south of Mu Cang Chai Town, now MCC commune.
This could work for the OP, should be able to hire a motorbike there and accommodations are easy to find. Food and convenience stores as well, a suitable base for DIY travelers.
Xe Daily Limousine’s office is at:
64 Đ. Trần Nhật Duật, Đồng Xuân, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội 100000
0971 576 555
At their office I spoke with Ms. Yen. You can WhatsApp her at:

She suggested booking through 12GO, but I checked the reviews here on TA and they are pretty bad 😂
I’m going to compile a list of sleeper buses running between Hanoi and MCC and post it here, or in the MCC forum.
However, if you do a basic search in Vietnamese, you can find the companies, most of these buses travel through MCC to Lai Chau City.
Safe travels 😊
