I try egg coffee in Hanoi next month and I read so many different opinions. Some people say is the best thing ever, some say is too sweet like a dessert. I like coffee strong, not too much sugar.
Where do locals really go for egg coffee? I know Giang is the famous one but I worry is only tourists now. Is there local shops in other districts that are better?
Also, is it normal to drink it hot only? I see some places have iced version but not sure if is the real thing.

Giang is still the classic and honestly still good, but yes, it is busy. We also tried Dinh, just around the corner on Dinh Tien Hoang, and the egg coffee there is just as good with half the crowd. It IS sweet, no way around it, it is basically a dessert coffee. If you like strong coffee, ask for the egg coffee with less condensed milk, some places will adjust it. Hot is the traditional way, the iced version is fine on a hot day but the texture is better hot.

Thanks! Is Dinh easy to find? And what did you pay, is it around 30k? Also do they do other drinks if my partner does not like egg coffee?

Very easy, it is a two minute walk from Giang, up the stairs, tiny balcony overlooking the lake. We paid 30k last year. They do regular Vietnamese coffee and tea too, so your partner will be fine. Go early morning, the light on the lake is lovely.
