Planning the Ha Giang loop for early December and trying to decide how far ahead to book the easy rider. I have heard both book a week out and just show up in Ha Giang town and pick one.
Early December, is that busy season for the loop? I do not want to get stuck with whoever is left over, but I also do not love committing to a company I cannot vet in person.
If you booked ahead, who did you use and were you happy? And for the people who just showed up, how did that go?

Just showed up in late November and it worked out, but I got lucky with a cancellation. My take: book ahead if you are picky about the company, wing it if you are flexible. Either way ask to meet the rider the evening before and do a short test ride around town, you can tell in five minutes whether the bike is maintained.

Replying to ArticulateRambutan5283 @ArticulateRambutan5283 The evening-before test ride is smart, wish I had thought of that. How did you find your rider in the first place, hostel recommendation or did you book with a specific company?
Early December I would book. It is not peak like October but the good easy riders get taken, and you do not want whoever is left. I booked about ten days out after reading reviews, my rider spoke great English and knew where to stop for the viewpoints. The people who just showed up at our hostel mostly ended up fine too, but a couple got paired with riders they were not thrilled about.
