Exchanging British Currency

Could you please advise on the most efficient and effective method for converting UK Pounds Sterling to Vietnamese Đồng? I would greatly appreciate any help or recommendations regarding this process, both within Hanoi and elsewhere in Vietnam.

I prefer the faintly anachronistic method. Along with a fee free ATM (VP Bank, ViB Bank)

    Giang Son Jewelry and Gemstone

130 P. Hàng Bạc, Hàng Buồm, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội, Vietnam

Located in the Old Quarter near Hoan Kiem Lake

I take it you meant a debit card Simon. I’d have thought a credit card, even a fee free one, would start the interest rate clock running on what is a cash advance. One reason I either take cash or use my fee free debit card. Btw, nothing old fashion about Gold. In fact the OP would be better taking some and exchanging it in Vietnam given how much it has increased in value of late.

OP. But yes gold shops tend to have marginally better rates but usually for notes like £50 (when did you last see one?) in good condition. Tbh, the difference isn’t that huge but do check the rate against say xe.com at the time of exchange.

Personally I like using my fee free credit card in a fee free ATM. Excellent rate and no need to carry large amounts of cash.

Others will tell you how to use gold shops – a faintly anachronistic method in this day and age.

NB most UK travel insurance limits you to about £300 in cash for loss or theft.
