Heading to Da Lat this weekend and everyone keeps hyping the night market food. But looking at photos it is mostly strawberry smoothies, grilled corn, and banh trang nuong. Which I like, do not get me wrong.
But is there actual dinner-level food there, or is it all snacks? And where do locals in Da Lat eat at night when they are not at the market? We arrive Friday evening, hungry, staying near the lake, and I would rather eat one great meal than graze on five average ones.

The market is fun for grazing but you are right, it is snack territory. For a real dinner, walk ten minutes to the streets behind the market, there is a whole row of lau hotpot and com ga places where locals actually eat. We had a hotpot for two for 250k and it beat everything at the market.

Hotpot sounds perfect for Da Lat weather. Is it easy to order without much Vietnamese? We usually point and smile our way through meals.

Pointing works great, the menus have pictures. The place we went even had an English menu, they are used to tourists wandering over from the market.
