Current Visa-Free & Transit Policies for Indian Passport Holders

Hello everyone!

I’m hoping to get the latest advice, as many older posts (around 8 years) are likely outdated.

Our group is traveling from various cities across India with connecting flights through different countries.

I know that Phu Quoc offers a visa exemption. However, if our transit country is Malaysia, Singapore, or Thailand—or even Hanoi in Vietnam—will we require a separate visa for those countries?

Any up-to-date guidance would be greatly appreciated. THANKS.

Yes its visa free and you don’t need transit visa from Malaysia Singapore or hanoi.

You just can’t come out of the airport or even go into the departure gate You have to transit area.

I confirmed this after a lot of searches and then confirming with travel agents and Vietnam and also others who have visited there. recently.

Also spoke to travel agents who have confirmed that they have sent their clients to Phu Quoc after the Visa free expection for Indians without any problems you will find lot of Indian tourists there. Also the Vietnamese visa is easy to get and very cheap.

If you want to visit other places like Danang which is I feel more like old goa or Bali vibe. While Phuqoc is like a Dubai vibe with good beaches.

Niikito, if you fly direct to Phu Quoc from another country and return the same , then you can enter visa free. If you transit in Vietnam, you will have to clear immigration and transfer to domestic terminal, and thus this means it will be wise to arrange a visa in advance. I went through exactly this scenario some weeks ago.

@Sam Sam, my first visit to Phu Quoc we did the same thing as you and got a visa as advice was vague and better to be safe. Even airline staff had a difficult time working out if we actually needed one.

However there have been numerous reports recently, including since the new SGN terminal opened, of people doing a visa free transfer. Requires going to one of the windows prior to immigration.

This is the Vietnam forum so not relevant to Sing, Malay, etc visa requirements.

If you fly into Phu Quoc direct from another country and leave to another country you don’t need a Vietnamese visa.

If transiting through Hanoi then you will go through immigration. If Indians require visas, then you will.

Even a quick Google search for entry by Indians into the other countries will show requirements.
