Crossing the street in Vietnam is easier than you think. One special thing about Vietnam is that we always care about those around us. Therefore, when you cross the street, give them a signal that you will go, and just go straight ahead, don’t hesitate. People will look at you and try to guess your path to avoid you. And never back away; that’s the only thing that will endanger you.

Wish had seen this 2 days ago lol 😝 was terrifying
Where are all the bunched up motorcycles and cars?
They don’t care about the pedestrian. They care about themselves.
I got 2 pieces of advice to add to this. Everything she wrote may be true but this isn’t something a rookie or newbie should try. 1st I recommend to stand back and watch and learn. My first day in Saigon I almost caused a few incidents so I chose to start crossing on less crowded streets which will add some walking time but hey good cardio. Option 2. Wait till you see some locals and then just walk beside them. I learned this on day 2 and done it the rest of my stay and it worked great
Scooters go around you but the same cannot be said for vehicles that’s for sure!
Walk at a slow and smooth pace. Do not speed up or slow down. Cars will slow to allow you to clear the lane and scooters will go around you. They’re like fish swimming around you. As long as you behave predictably, everything will be fine.
Don’t forget to have Viet coffee (coconut or egg) beforehand.
