Cash vs Card and ATM. Kiwi 1st time visitor to Vietnam. 10 day trip, how much cash should I bring in with me, and how much should I buy when we get there ? We have currency on a wise card – what’s the generaly advice and approach here ? How easy it is to get cash out and what do you need it for ? What would be the split of cash to card transcations ? Speciifically in Hanoi, Sapa, ha long and Tam coc ? Many Thanks to this great group.

Mark, there’s a lot of rubbish spoken about “cash is king”
Cash is King
Sorry just saw you withdrew more,
We tried to use card at the larger places but some charged up to 6% extra to use card (we paid cash at those). But cash was far more widely accepted.
Cash for most transactions and your wise card for bigger purchases. I have struggled with getting cash out of some ATM and wish I brought more cash with me for convenience.
Cash is used everywhere still. It’s very easy to exchange AUD to Dong so bring fresh $100 notes and exchange when you’re there.
I’m heading to Vietnam soon, this is great advice, thanks. What is Grab?
Fellow kiwi traveller –
Cash seems the way around here so far on my stay
