Can I search this facebook gfroup for key words, instead of asking this big long question? We are a family of 6. 2 adults, 20s, and late teens, travelling to Hanoi late April early May. We will likely visit 3-4 areas for 2-4 days each. . Hanoi itself, Lan Ha Bay, Cat Ba Island. Ninh Binh. Cao Bang Loop are on the list of places. We are looking for recommendations on tour operators, or whether we can simply self tour these areas. Arrange our own accommodations, transportation, rent scooters, buy our own mealsetc. At $300-400 PP a day, tours will cost upward of $2500 for 3 days. Times 3 or 4 tours, that gets prohibitive. In a country were you can get a hotel room for $50 and meals for $10, it seems expensive to me. Any thoughts, ideas, contacts recommendations welcomed? Last question, is Hanoi going to be a zoo May 1st weekend? Reunification? Is it best to stay away? Or is it the place to be, lots of fun? Thanks in advance.

Search for hotels in the Old Quarter near the lake. Then it’s walkable. The older kids can do their own thing. In a small boutique hotel if you need two or three rooms you would be able to probably bargain with them. I am staying at Sena Boutique Hotel in late Feb. The manager can set up transportation too. Lots of luxury vans to haul all of you around. If you want a pool there are several nice hotels around the Old Quarter.
You can absolutely search the group — there’s already a lot of helpful info here 😊 I’ll just add a personal perspective from running a small homestay in Hanoi and helping guests organise trips and transport based on their needs.
