I keep seeing Bui Vien called the backpacker street of Saigon and I cannot tell if it is actually fun or just a place you go once to say you went.
Is it like Khao San Road where it is trashy but in a fun way, or is it genuinely skippable? I like a beer and people watching but I am not 22 anymore and loud EDM bars are not really my scene.
My hotel is in District 1 anyway so I will probably wander through at some point. Worth sitting down for a drink, or should I head somewhere else for nightlife in HCMC?

Skippable for me. Felt like a street designed for tourists to behave badly in. If you want nightlife with actual locals in it, the craft beer places on Pasteur or a rooftop bar in D1 are way better. But you are in District 1 anyway, walk through once so you can say you saw it.

Replying to StunningPeacock721 @StunningPeacock721 Okay you have convinced me to at least walk through once. Which craft beer places on Pasteur are actually good? I keep seeing Heart of Darkness mentioned, is that the one?

Replying to FascinatingGiraffe7015 @FascinatingGiraffe7015 Okay fair, if you do go: Heart of Darkness on Ly Tu Trong is the big one, great IPAs. Pasteur Street Brewing has a taproom on Pasteur itself, fun vibe. East West Brewing on Le Thanh Ton is more chill. Even if Bui Vien is not your scene, the craft beer is legit.
Went on a Friday night last month. It is loud and a bit feral but I had a great time people watching with a 50k beer. Go once, stay an hour, then walk ten minutes toward Pham Ngu Lao for somewhere calmer. It is Khao San without the charm but with better food nearby, if that makes sense.
