Everyone keeps telling us we HAVE to try the famous banh mi place in Hoi An. You know the one, always a line down the street, Anthony Bourdain photo on the wall.
My question is, is it actually the best banh mi in town, or is it just the most famous? We waited 40 minutes yesterday at a random stall near the market and it was honestly great, crispy baguette, pate, the works, 25k.
Is the famous one noticeably better, like worth going back and queuing for? And is there a better time to go when the line is shorter? We are here three more days and I keep flip flopping on whether to bother.

That 25k market stall might be the real answer. The famous ones are excellent, no argument, but the gap between a great random stall and the famous place is way smaller than the queue suggests. We went back to our random stall twice.
We tried both Madam Khanh and Banh Mi Phuong. Honestly both great, Phuong has the crispier baguette in my opinion. Go before 8am or after 2pm and the line is nothing. The hype is real but the queue at noon is not worth it.

Replying to Debbie Joron Piper @Debbie Joron Piper Okay this is exactly what I needed. Which one did you like more in the end, Madam Khanh or Phuong? We only have the patience for one more queue.

Phuong, for the crispier baguette. Madam Khanh is great too, slightly more herbs in the filling, but if you only queue once, make it Phuong before 8am. We went at 7:30 and there were maybe six people ahead of us.
