with the fuel situation now, internal flights are being cancelled. i have a flight booked Hanoi to Dong Hoi early May but I’m going to book an overnight train as well just for insurance
I have taken the train from Hanoi to Da Nang, overnight, did the Laman Express VIP sleeper, was good and toilets are kept clean, take your own toilet roll and hand wipes!!
We did a four berth sleeper from HCMC to Nha trang we didn’t sleep much as its incredibly noisy but it was good fun. It was clean we do have our own sleeping bag liners though.
They recycled the sheets, toilets were overflowing by the morning (Hanoi to Hue).
Took the train from Ninh Bin to Danang and it was great. 12 hours, overnight. They booted us all out of our rooms with about 10 min left on the ride to get the sheets and linens from the room.
Just fly for 50 bucks you’ll be glad you did. Only takes one hour
I did it twice and thought it was fine but my standards are fairly low LOL. Cleanliness may also depend on which train you get as there are multiple.
We did Damitrans Hanoi to Hue. Cabin and linen were spotless. Toilets a bit grubby but sinks for hand washing in corridor clean with hand soap and hand dryer.
I booked an overnight train from Hanoi to Danang. The photos online were of crisp white linen, nice duvets and a snack basket. The reality was a dirty brown sheet and thin pillow, no snack box, and definitely no comfort. Longest 18 hours 🤣 but it was an experience, I’ll give it that. Next time I’ll fly.
I’ve taken the train all over, i go to Vietnam annually sometimes twice a year anyway. definitely go first class and then just pray you get a good one. I need to start a journal about which trains have the best accommodations. Some of them are old and bug ridden some are clean and tidy.
