I just messaged my accommodation to advise them of my arrival time tomorrow and got a message back saying the apartment is no longer available.
I’ve found a couple of options I like, but they’re in district 7, and on previous visits I’ve stayed in D1.
Does anyone have a favourite place they’d recommend? I prefer small characterful places with plenty going on around, and like to wander rather than needing to get taxis everywhere.
I’m so annoyed I’m having to take the time to sort this when I’d spent ages researching and deciding months ago.
Hey ho ……..
Thanks for any input guys.

Website?
How do you find them on FB? I tend to avoid FB.
“And how else do you book accommodation these days?”
Through the property, using their website, or Facebook, or any other means I can find.
I go out of my way to not use third party sites.

I think this is the problem, pay at property but if someone else pays first, then they can just cancel your booking.
I will try to reconfirm a few days before. Maybe l will end up in D1. At least D1 is convenient for transport.
@#20.
I’m all settled in and ok thanks. The location is good, the place is spotless, and the staff lovely. And it’s great to be back in HCMC.

No, the original booking did not inform me. I messaged them to advise of my arrival time and got the “find somewhere else” reply. It was a “pay property on arrival” booking.

“This trip so far in under 4 weeks, 8 bookings, 6 in Sri Lanka & 2 in Cambodia, 4 have cancelled on me last minute”
Wow – you’re having a bad run!
“……..leaving me to find new accommodation from fewer options & at higher prices of course, as well as wasting valuable holiday time doing hotel research.” That’s what I found the most frustrating.
You must be pulling your hair out!

#21, yes Booking.com and Agoda are part of the same company, as well as Priceline and Kayak plus a few others.
@19, at least you got a bed and roof over your head in an area you want to be.
So your original booking did not even inform you, it was cancelled?
It is a concern if you are arriving late in the day.

Had to book at a nearby hotel at more than double the price

And that is usually the problem. It’s not just the inconvenience and disappointment. Late booking or just showing up asking for a room, usually means it will cost more than a booking made weeks / months in advance.
missIndy Go for it. Given them a piece of your mind. You’ll feel much better afterwards :-))
I seem to recall someone saying Agoda and Booking have the same parent company. True or not, I’ve never really checked.
Inferior & more expensive is the norm unfortunately for booking last minute accommodation missindy, hope you’re ok where you are tonight
It does seem to be an increasing issue unfortunately
I turned up at a hotel on Ko Lanta 2 years ago, to see how the construction work was going 🙂 (that was their excuse for cancelling my 9 month old booking with 10 days to go before my stay). Obviously there was no construction work going on & as Agoda gave me the name of the lady who called them to cancel my booking, I spoke to her & she flat out denied it, but offered me the same room I’d booked & they had cancelled (only 1 such room at the hotel) for a much higher price 🙂
You just have to laugh I’m afraid, and have a few drinks 🙂

“Both booking.com & Agoda offer no help at all when this happens in my experience”
I’m not sure any of the online booking sites would be any better. And how else do you book accommodation these days? I’m also at the stage where I despair about reviews. I think the majority of them can’t be trusted which makes it so difficult to assess accommodation.
