Transit from incoming international to domestic connection

I have an incoming international flight connecting to an onward domestic leg, all on one ticket with VN.

Do I have to clear immigration and go landside for my connection, or is there a short cut that allows you to stay airside?

There are 2 airports in Hanoi.

Hanoi immigration is not too bad usually, if there are long queues, look out for them opening more desks, then quickly join the new queue. You should be fine.

    Thank you so much.

    I bought a multidestinaton ticket: Milan-Hanoi-Da Nang and Hanoi-Milan.

@69bertie: very clear and useful information! Thanks a lot. I think to carry on only hand luggage so it’s easier and faster. I read about very crowded immigration rows but with this kind of ticket I hope to be helped by VN to have a smooth transit.

I have more than three hours: I hope will be fine.

    The airport is Hanoi.

    Best regards

If you are with Vietnam Airlines on one ticket, usually, if the domestic flight is on the assisted list. 1. You’ll be given a transit sticker to wear. 2. You clear immigration and customs. 3. At this point, Vietnam Airlines staff will take your checked bags off you to be loaded onto the domestic flight.

    4. You go outside to pick up the shuttle bus – sign posted. I would not recommend walking – trip looks short but is rather convoluted and even with carry on bags….rather you than me. Takes about 5mins to get over to the domestic terminal. Buses come along about 15mins apart. You arrive at the domestic terminal.

    5. You should already have your next boarding pass. Go straight to security. You show your boarding pass and passport at the entrance. Depending on the time of day, it might be packed out but the lines do move fairly fast. 6 Once cleared, Go find your gate. Have a good flight. I have done the transfer in just over an hour from getting off the aircraft.

    Hi everybody,

I’m in the same situation: I booked a flight from Milan to Da Nang with a stopover in Hanoi (about 3 hours). Do I have to go through passport control for the international flight, go to the domestic terminal, and go through the security checks again? I’m also flying with Vietnam Airlines.

    Thanks.

Thanks for the confirmation. Any idea how long to allow for the connection?
