Hi….First time going to Vietnam and looking for private taxi/driver to take my husband and I from Ho Chi Minh Airport to Liberty Central Saigon Centre ( I believe this is District 1). I see many services offered on Trip Advisor but they all seem to end service at 11pm or 11:30pm at the latest.

My flight gets in at 10pm and by the time I pass immigration and retrieve my luggage, it may be past this 11:30 pick up time.

Can anyone list some good transportation companies that operate past midnight, should we need a very late transport? I hesitate to book companies that end service at 9pm or even 11pm

Oh…I also have used GRAB taxi but since I’ll be so tired, I wanted to just be greeted by someone holding my name on placard outside EXIT gate form immigration. ( i think i will be super tired)

“everyone is nowadays using app based hailing services which doesn’t leave enough business for the old style taxi companies.”

    For sure.

If I could edit my previous post:

I should have said green, grey, & white generic cars only marked “taxi”.

    Or, something like that.

Agree, MayLinh and Vinasun taxis are definitely disappearing in HCMC as well.

Before Covid you could step out of your hotel and stop a vacant taxi within minutes.

Nowadays you hardly find any available even in the very busy tourist areas.

I think that they are going out of business because everyone is nowadays using app based hailing services which doesn’t leave enough business for the old style taxi companies.

“I think mass tourism has changed them!”

I think the taxi business has changed.

People continue to recommend Mai Linh and Vinasun but in Hanoi (and beyond), you see very few of these taxis.

G7 taxi has clearly overtaken them.

You will see green and grey cars marked only with “Taxi”. Obviously recycled cars that once worked for the above mentioned companies.

While many folks here use and recommend Grab, they have already lost market share to Xanh SM.

    Things change.

At the airport, can’t remember the name, told it was 20,000 a km. Written on window of taxi, got angry and wanted 450,000! He didn’t get it but we paid more than the usual 200,000. Never known this. None of the vina sun or mai line taxi drivers would do the meter.

I think mass tourism has changed them!

“After 17yrs of coming here we got scammed by a driver off the rank.”

    At the airport?

    What ‘brand’ taxi?

How did you end up with that option?

I’d be very wary of these taxi drivers now. After 17yrs of coming here we got scammed by a driver off the rank. He got very angry when we refused to pay the exorbitant fee he wanted. He’d switched off the meter so we couldn’t see it as we pulled up.

This never used to happen, what’s going wrong with these drivers? Scammers

Second vote for what Scott said. If you have to be met and greeted get your hotel to send someone.

Otherwise exit arrivals, turn left, follow signs to taxi rank and ask either the guy wearing a green shirt (he works for MaiLinh) or the guy wearing a white shirt with Vinasun on to get you a taxi. Ignore everyone else who offered you a ride.

You can consider booking a car transfer from your hotel due to late arrival.

  9. Travel Expert scottj765 says:

I’d just ask your hotel to organise a private transfer.
