Money exchanges

I know it’s always a bad rate at the airport but I always like having a small amount of cash on me, are they all pretty much the same there? I don’t know how cashless Vietnam is but if I have to get more cash is it best to change $ or € rather than £?

    Well, sure I like best exchange rate and also like red carpet welcome and friendliness 😅

    I did not misunderstand. I know some are not bothered about exchange rates, l have come across that many times. But some are more bothered. You can see that from numerous posts, on TA forums, about where to get the best exchange rates.

    @StingRay,

    I think you misunderstood me. TBH, I less care about exchange rate over customer service of friendliness and courteous as mentioned previously. What brings it me was the memory. That was the reason I went to the same shop next day even other shops offer me more, I don’t really care.

    On £s it was not so good, over 1% less. On $s differences may not be so great. The service was the same.

    3-5% soon adds up, especially are paying for rooms in cash.

    @StingRay,

    I like Quang Huy Gem stone Jewelry right an across tiny alley. No offense, just love the custom service and recognizing me on next day when I showed up at the shop and gave me a little bump exchange rate. Actually they both are almost the same exchange rate offer.

    In any case, friendliness and courteous count and last in my memory.

    To OP’s question, it’s not really matter if your are exchanging around couple of hundred $ and probably lose $3-5 per $100, unless you are around in that area. For $1,000 more, it becomes a money laundering 😅

    I found: Giang Son Gemstone Jewelry

    130 P. Hàng Bạc, Hàng Buồm, Hoàn Kiếm, gave good rates on £s.. The one next door was not so good. But there are quite a few in that street.

    P. Hà Trung, has also been recommended and that is nearer your hotel.

    Vietnam is a very “cash is king” country, even a lot my hotels were cash only.

    Rates at airport not great but not too bad. There are several all next to each other, near the exit, just compare rates. Just change a small amount.

    Best rates are at the gold shops, l got over 2% more than the official rates, for £s. Not worth buying $s to change into Dong. Doubt Euros won’t be any better.

    £s are fine. Only bring the others if you’ve some to get rid of.

    Rates at the airport aren’t horrendous and clearly displayed. I think minor variations but nothing serious.
