Hello! Just a word of warning if you are coming to Hoi An to buy clothes. There are loads of amazing tailors in almost every other shop in the old town. We were approached whilst having a coffee by a lady who established it was our first day there. She managed to convince us to walk with her to her shop- which was actually in the market hall. She told us that the tailor we had originally planned to go to had closed, and was extremely friendly and flattering (in hindsight I should have known that this was just to get us to go with her but we were very tired and jet lagged!) once we were there we were pressured into choosing clothes styles and fabrics- to cut a long story short we paid about 5 times the price that we should have- and were made to pay in advance. I do realise that this is my own fault and that I was extremely naive- I have since heard from other tourists that their hotels warned them not to buy clothes from the stalls in the market. The clothes I received are made from very cheap fabric (think Temu fabrics!!) and would have actually cost less to make in the UK. I hope this post helps someone from making the same mistake we did 😣

Anybody that takes you to a Taylor shop is getting 25% commission
I have been going to Hoian for 12 years now. I use to always get work gear made. They have tripled their prices in the past two years and it’s not worth it anymore
Oh I’ve met this lady recently….. I was buying something, she was hanging around, then very forcefully insisted I go to her shop. I was tired, didn’t really put my foot down. She was very good at the flattering comments, about my hair, my skin, my figure, and I felt really uncomfortable. Into the market hall we went. I said no, I don’t want anything. She practically hissed at me and stormed off. 🤦🏻♀️🤣
It’s an April fool ! He’s talking S ::::te
Yeah! Years ago (over 15 yrs) I went to the market myself. Lady there did clothes cheaper and with fabrics I chose, it was great, wore those for years. Back then I also had town tailor do 2 jumpsuits for me, more expensive, but slightly better made, loved them.
Not just the market though. I went to a shop and the result was dreadful. Paid in advance and its total and absolute rubbish. I’d bought a dress and shirt there three years ago and they were minimum quality. Gave it another try in March and it’s not worth my time or money. Hoi an is finished. I don’t even know how to lodge a complaint. Don’t waste your effort here.
I think that’s the same for everything, if anyone is pressuring you to come inside it’s for a reason…
Are there any fixed priced shops in Hoi-an?
TBH I didn’t find any of the tailors cheap, better off going to a boutique, they had some lovely non expensive dresses. But we all learn by our mistakes. Enjoy your time in Vietnam. 😃
I will share my experience in Hoi an too, it was our first night, I bought an octopus on skewer on the street. I was a little surprise, she told me 250k vnd, I paid as it was already grilled for me, in my mind this is too much but my fault for not asking how much before.
